Part 1 – Learn To Remove Old Toilet

Drain all the water from the old toilet. Make sure that the supply line is clean and doesn’t have any leakage. Now remove the tank and bowl. For that, first, unscrew the bolt fixed on the floor. Take the tank out once it is empty, and then remove the toilet bowl. You may need help here. If the old toilet is very old, then it might have rust which will make the task difficult.

Use a heavy lubricant to fix this issue. Remove the seal and clean all rug to fix a new one with ease. If the flange is broken or damaged, you may need to replace it. So check its condition before stepping into the next process.

Part 2 – Fix The Toilet Seal

The next step is very important to fix the Home depot toilets. The seal will keep it locked on the floor and prevent leakage too. For this, you have two options- either attach the seal to the bottom of the toilet bowl or attach it directly to the flange.

The type of seal you also use matters and also depends on the tile of the bathroom. If it is too thick, then you need a thick wax ring or seal. So choose wisely.

Part 3-  Set The Toilet Bowl

Now you have set the seal; it’s time to place the new bowl. Hold it carefully and lower it onto the flange or seal. Align it with all the holes of the flange so that you don’t have to shift it while securing it with bolts.

Take the help of someone to place it at the right place. Use appropriate washers and bolts to attach the bowl with the flange. Tightly screw the bolts and move to the next step.

Note: Don’t put too much pressure, or else the porcelain bowl will break down.

Part 4-  Attach The Tank

Several home depot toilets come with pre-attached tanks, but follow this step if you have bought one with a separate tank. The tank has gaskets at the bottom that need to be attached to the bowl.

Place it where the bowl has holes. Insert the bolts from the inside of the tank and place them over the bowl where it has to be fixed. Again use washers to fix it and, with the help of a screwdriver, tighten the bolts.

In the final steps, reattach the water supply lines and the right toilet seat over them. You will need to do some measurements over here to find an ideal seat. Elongated, round and raised are the popular toilet seats available. Find the one that suits you but remember some requires extra installation, so your work will increase if you get one such kind.

Your new toilet is ready to use. Check for any leakages, if any.
